Women With Disabilities Australia - Human Rights Toolkit for Women and Girls with Disability
- The toolkit aims to help women and girls learn more about their human rights and how they can be used to achieve change in their life or the lives of other women and girls with disability.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
- CPTED is a multi-disciplinary approach that aims to reduce victimisation, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among residents so they can gain territorial control of areas and reduce opportunities for crime and fear of crime. The International CPTED Association promotes the use of CPTED globally and supports local organisations, practitioners and communities to create safer communities and environments.

Research
- Free to be is a crowd-mapping tool developed in collaboration with CrowdSpot, Monash University XYX Lab and young women. It enables young women to identify and share public spaces that make them feel uneasy, scared or happy and safe.

- This Committee for Sydney report presents data and individual lived experiences from women and girls living and working in Sydney. It outlines key recommendations aimed at developing a holistic and strategic approach engaging key stakeholders and decision makers in creating an equitable and inclusive Sydney.
Women’s Night Walk in Kingswood Findings Report (2020, 14.9MB PDF)
- The report shared the findings from the Kingswood Women’s Night Walk, a participatory ‘walkshop’ to capture the voices of local women and their experience of navigating public space in Kingswood at night time. The program was developed by Penrith City Council and Cred Consulting, and supported by the Department of Planning and Environment.
Cities Alive: Designing cities that work for women (2022)
- Prepared by Arup in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the University of Liverpool, this report identifies four key areas of focus for improving women’s lives in cities and outlines a new gender responsive approach to planning and design.

TramLab Toolkits (2021)
- This toolkit series prepared by La Trobe University, Monash University XYX Lab and RMIT investigates the issues and factors impacting on safety and perceptions of safety for women and girls on Victorian public transport. The toolkits provide a framework and practical steps to help make public transport safer for women and girls.
On the go: How women travel around our city – A case study on active transport across Sydney (2020)
- This study collected gender sensitive data to identify the unique barriers to active transport experienced by women and support the City of Sydney to apply a gender lens to urban transport strategies.
A Right to the night: Australian girls on their safety in public places (2016, 1.12MB PDF)
- This report outlines the findings from a survey commissioned by Plan International Australia and Our Watch which explores the views of young women and girls on personal safety and gender equality, including their sense of security in public spaces.
- This research and training has been developed by the Monash University XYX Lab for local government employees and the broader urban design and architecture industry. It aims to help participants adopt a gender lens to placemaking projects and in the workplace. The training was supported by the Victorian Government’s Commission for Gender Equity in the Public Sector.

How Vienna designed a city for women (2017)
- This case study published by Apolitical investigates how Vienna has made the city a safer and more convenient place for women after incorporating a gender lens into urban design.
Gender Mainstreaming in the City of Vienna’s urban planning and development
- The City of Vienna has been using gender-sensitive planning already for more than two decades. This manual explores the ways in which gender mainstreaming is implemented at different scales and in different urban planning projects in Vienna.
Apps
- Sunny, an app for women and girls with disability to learn about violence and abuse. Sunny also supports users who have been impacted by sexual assault, domestic and family violence, to understand violence, know their rights and reach out for support.
- Sonder is a personal safety monitoring and response service. Users get 24/7 assistance through the app or in-person.
- Parachute is for independent individuals who take their safety very seriously and are looking for the best their phone can do for them in an emergency. Parachute uses your phone's sensors to continuously record video, audio and location data during an emergency.
- My Safetipin is a personal safety app that helps people make decisions about mobility, based on the safety score of an area.
