The final Master Plan for the Meadowbank Education and Employment Precinct has been released and sets a new vision for how we learn and connect. It demonstrates how a precinct approach involving State government agencies and council, with feedback from the community and private sector, can plan for the delivery of improved public spaces, green streets, transport, access and new jobs, schools and other learning facilities.

Work has already started on new primary and high schools next to the TAFE campus to accommodate 2,500 students and approval was recently granted for a new Multi-Trades and Digital Technology Hub on the TAFE site. These projects will be a catalyst for the precinct's vision of transforming Meadowbank into a centre of excellence for education and training and are expected to be completed by 2022.

Your feedback

We exhibited the preliminary Master Plan late last year and you informed us that your top priorities were:

  • Improved traffic management in the precinct
  • Improved regional pedestrian access
  • Enhanced local pedestrian experience
  • Upgraded station precincts

In response to this feedback, the final Master Plan has a strong focus on connectivity (both local and regional pedestrian and cycle links) and improved transport services and vehicle access throughout the precinct. The Master Plan has recommended new and exciting projects but more work and planning still needs to be done to deliver the vision.

Next steps

To implement the Master Plan, new arrangements are being put in place to guide the project, including establishing separate working groups to deliver precinct infrastructure, education and employment outcomes. The working groups will have representatives from key stakeholders responsible for delivering project outcomes.

The Infrastructure Working Group will focus on identifying ways to integrate infrastructure use across the precinct and aligning the infrastructure projects planned and underway in the precinct.

The Education Working Group will support the creation and integration of education pathways across all education levels and institutions in the precinct.

The Employment and Investment Working Group will focus on creating and promoting employment opportunities and attracting investment. One of its first tasks will be the preparation of a Precinct Activation Strategy.
