Paying tribute to Mr Roberts’ contributions, the Hon. Paul Scully, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, noted the Chief Commissioner’s dedication to public service and achievements in urban planning.

“In the role of Chief Commissioner, Geoff Roberts AM has set the Greater Cities Commission up from the very beginning as Economic Commissioner. While he has achieved many things, his major legacy is in Western Sydney, where he led a governance process that aligned the three level of government, demonstrating the boldness and collaboration required to provide better housing and jobs choice for communities,” said Minister Scully.

“Geoff has had an immense impact, applying relationship building, insights and rigour to strategic planning over the past eight years, including the previous three as Chief Commissioner, where he led the agency’s transformation to the Greater Cities Commission.

“Geoff Roberts has been integral to shaping and connecting the future of Sydney and I want to personally thank him for his significant contribution.

As an interim arrangement, from 1 July the Acting Chief Commissioner will be Dr Deborah Dearing, who is the Commission’s current Deputy Chief Commissioner and City Commissioner, Eastern Harbour City.

“Dr Dearing is a distinguished cities leader, and her international experience in urban design, strategic land-use planning, affordable housing and property development will be an asset to the Commission as it prepares its draft Region and City Plans,” said Minister Scully.
