New Western Parkland City Commissioner

The Greater Cities Commission has today announced the appointment of Ms Billie Sankovic as Western Parkland City Commissioner.

Ms Sankovic joins the Commission at an important time, as it leads the development of a new multi-city region for NSW that delivers global economic scale and local liveability for everyone who lives there.

"As we undertake the delivery of Australia’s first global city region, the Commission will be strengthened with the addition of Billie Sankovic to our outstanding cohort of Commissioners. Billie stands to build on the excellent work of our former Commissioner, Liz Dibbs," said Chief Commissioner Geoff Roberts AM.

"Deeply committed to the people of the Western Parkland City, Billie's 30 years' experience of working in Western Sydney across the community sector, in local and state government, and at Western Sydney University is highly valued.

"Her extensive leadership experience in community development, service delivery, and social policy and planning will be critical to the success of the Western Parkland City emerging as a social and economic powerhouse."

Ms Sankovic commenced her four-year term on 6 December 2022 and was appointed following an extensive public recruitment process involving local government representatives.

City Commissioners are the connective tissue between state and local government. They facilitate important conversations across communities and empower stakeholders to set common goals for their city. As key holders of the relationships within their cities, City Commissioners ensure connectivity between the Six Cities Region Plan and their City Plans, and that the work done by local government and other entities informs the City Plans.

Ms Sankovic joins City Commissioners Professor Peter Poulet (Central River City); Dr Deborah Dearing (Eastern Harbour City); Matt Endacott (Lower Hunter Greater Newcastle City); the Hon. Robyn Parker (Central Coast City); Jacki Johnson (Illawarra Shoalhaven City); and thematic Commissioners, John Lydon (Economic Commissioner), Meg McDonald (Environment Commissioner) and Natalie Walker (Social Commissioner).
