Mr Hanger, currently Deputy Secretary, Regional Development and Programs at the Department of Regional NSW, will join the Commission in an ongoing capacity in late January 2023, following an open, competitive and merit-based recruitment process.
"Chris is well-known to many of us at the Commission through his work at Regional NSW, where he has cemented his reputation for deploying government resources to achieve real change for local government, industry and communities,” said Chief Commissioner Geoff Roberts AM.
“Chris is a seasoned and highly regarded leader, with 20 years of experience spanning state and Commonwealth government and the private sector. He brings great strategic thinking and knowledge of our multi-city region, with a deep understanding of managing growth. We have a significant year ahead as we deliver the first Region Plan for the six cities and Chris is perfectly positioned for a standing start.”
“I would also like to acknowledge the great work our former Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Mildwater has done to get us to this point, and warmly thank Lyndal Hayward for acting in the CEO role during this leadership transition.”
"This is an exciting time to be joining the Greater Cities Commission and working with the Commissioners, the team and our partners across all levels of government, industry and the community as we do the important work of shaping Australia’s first global multi-city region. The step change this will provide to the communities of New South Wales is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” said Mr Hanger.
