In 2016 the Greater Sydney Commission invited representatives of peak organisations in the social and environmental fields to form two independent advisory panels. Panel members were asked to advise the Commission on high level strategic directions related to preparing six draft District Plans.

Both Panels prepared advisory papers which gave advice to the Commission on strategic environmental and social priorities. Both the Environment Advisory Paper (PDF, 7 MB) and Social Advisory Paper (PDF, 4 MB) were finalised in November 2016. The Commission used the Advisory Papers as input to the draft District Plans, released for consultation in November 2016.

The Commission holds ongoing roundtable meetings with peak social and environmental groups to discuss key social and environmental planning priorities as the Plans are put into action. The range of groups we meet with is listed below.
