Jacki Johnson

City Commissioner - Illawarra-Shoalhaven

Portrait of Jacki Johnson, smiling into the camera.Jacki Johnson was appointed Illawarra-Shoalhaven City Commissioner in September 2022. 

Ms Johnson has lived in the Illawarra since 2008. With deep experience in the finance sector, she has focussed most recently on the role finance can play in ensuring a sustainable and resilient Australia. 

She was CEO of the Insurance Australia Group New Zealand from 2010-2016 and, in this capacity, held roles including President of the Insurance Council of NZ and Chair of the Christchurch Recovery Chief Executive Forums. In 2015, she was recognised as NZ Herald Executive of the Year and in 2022, she received the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Ms Johnson was co-chair of the United Nations Environment Financial Initiative from 2017-2021, and was the founding co-chair of the Australia Sustainable Finance Initiative. She has held numerous non-executive director roles, and currently is a non-executive director of Community First Credit Union. She has recently been appointed to the faculty of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. 

In 2019, Ms Johnson retired from her Group Executive role with Insurance Australia Group to embark on a doctorate focussed on Australian publicly-listed firms and how they create value for all stakeholders. She continues to advise Boards and Management teams, and mentor leaders on strategy, climate change, sustainability and resilience. 

Ms Johnson holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) from the University of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma in Safety Science from the University of NSW.
